Why reduce our dependence on foreign oil?
- Over 65% of the petroleum we use comes from foreign sources.
- The 320 billion gallons of oil used in the U.S. per year costs our economy nearly $500 billion a year.
- The U.S. has 3% of the world's traditional oil reserves, while OPEC sits on 75% of the global stockpile.
Biodiesel feedstocks bloom in downtown Seattle
September is the season oilseed crops flourish at Propel's station in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood. Come by and see the local and sustainable sources of Propel's fuel. Feedstocks on display include:
Camelina- A low-input oilseed crop grown on marginal land in Montana, as well as in Eastern Washington and Oregon.
Canola- Grown in rotation with Washington wheat crops, Canola is an ideal biodiesel feedstock with its hearty nature and high oil content.
Sunflower- Native to America, sunflower can produce twice the oil of soy, as well as nutritious animal feed.
Safflower- Adapted to dry climates of California and Montana, safflower does not require intensive irrigation as an oilseed crop.
